چکیده

In typical refrigerant compressors, peak cylind er pressures under liquid slugging conditions are as high as 10 times the peak pressures during the normal operation. In this paper we model this phenomenon by considering the compression process with a separated gas and liquid media in the cylinder. Two cases of this model for various liquid fractions are simulat ed. Even though time histories corresponding to both cases are sl ightly different, both models yield very high peak pressures, similar to those measured, when the compressor is "pumping" mostly liquid. Various aspects of the problem are discussed here. Liquid Slugging Measurements in Reciprocating Compressors

Several different methods of measuring cylinder pressures generated during liquid slugging in Hermetic and Semi-Hermetic compressors have been devised. The methods are discussed and compared, and test results are presented. Some interesting aspects of liquid slugging are also discussed. An empirical relation for predicting maximum cylinder pressure aa a function of compressor power, bore size, ...

An Investigation of Compressor Slugging Problems

Mathematical models have been popularly applied to study the compression processes of superheated refrigerant vapor in compressors. As to the case when refrigerant enters a compressor cylinder in the state of liquid and vapor mixture, however, the availability of fundamental studies is very limited. -A mathematical model is presented to simulate the compression processes of two-phase saturated ...

The Detection of Liquid Slugging Phenomena in Reciprocating Compressors via Power Measurements

The presence of liquid refrigerant in the compressor cylinder during operation, or liquid slugging, is one of the most common causes of failure in reciprocating compressors. We propose to detect this fault by analyzing the electrical current flowing into the compressor and identifying the change in the load on the motor caused by the presence of liquid in the compressor cylinder. Two different ...

Modeling and Prediction of FRP Composite Cylinder tubes Crashworthiness Characteristics

In this paper, numerical simulation of FRP composite cylinder tubes progressive crushing processes is conducted using LS-Dyna. Details on the numerical modeling strategy are given and discussed. It is found that triggers introduced in the numerical simulation can effectively model the bevel trigger at the end of the tubular specimens. It is also found that two-layer finite element model based o...
